Stone barn on the edge of the beautiful mountain village of Castagnola (about 600 m asl).
The property occupies a super position in the mountains, with breathtaking views of Gramolazzo Lake (great for swimming, fishing and water sports) and the surrounding area (a track from Castagnola leads all the way down to the lake (less than 1km)). Sailing regattas are held on the lake in the summer.
Good structural condition. The ground floor comprises the original stable (48 sqm) and store room (32 sqm). Above the stable is the hayloft (48 sqm). Change of use has been approved and the barn can be extended up to 40 cubic metres for bathrooms and central heating boiler.
There is a small garden area by the barn and a car park about 50m away. A track road leads right up to the barn.
A bread van comes to the village six times a week and there are weekly visits from the fishmonger and greengrocer.
Gramolazzo, less than 5 minutes away by car, has a butcher, newsagent, grocer, chemist, bank and camp-site. It is well known locally for its annual sculpture competition – much of the local economy revolves around the marble that is quarried from the mountains.
The bustling mountain town of Piazza al Serchio (on the main Pisa/Lucca to Aulla train line) is about 5 km away rand provides all day to day shopping and services as well as a weekly open air market.
There are ski runs in the village of Careggine (22km) and a much larger, well equipped ski resort in Abetone, 63km away. The coast is about 60 km away and can be reached in about 1 hour.
Lucca and Pisa airport are about 60km and 85km away respectively.
