Spacious 2 or 3 bedroom top (3rd) floor apartment with river and mountain views located just outside the medieval walls of the market town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana.
The appearance of the building contrasts with the warm tones of the medieval stone walls and Tuscan rooftops close by. A terrace wraps around the apartment on three sides, overlooking the bridge and the river Serchio which flows below and which is home to families of ducks, cormorants etc.
The apartment (about 120 sqm) has large windows, beautiful views and high ceilings which, together with the wrap-around balcony (about 70 sqm), make it light and airy. The doors and window frames are made of solid chestnut wood. It is in very good structural condition and has gas central heating.
The rooms are laid out around a large central corridor and all have access to the wrap-around balcony. There is a dining room with kitchen off, large lounge with dual aspect windows to the south-west and south-east (over the river), 2 double bedrooms, bathroom and shower room.
There is a cellar at ground floor level.
Reserved car parking space.
The medieval market town of Castelnuovo (227m/745ft; population 8,000) lies in the heart of the Garfagnana, as this stretch of the fertile valley of the Serchio, flanked by the Apuan Alps to the west and Apennines to the east, is known. The district provides a range of sporting activities and promotes folk, agricultural and cultural events.
Castelnuovo is about 11km from the walled town of Barga, 43 km from Lucca and 66 km from Pisa airport, which is less than 1 ½ hours drive away. The coast (Forte dei Marmi) and skiing (Abetone) are about an hour's drive away. Castelnuovo train station is on the main Pisa/Lucca to Aulla line and there is a bus station with good links to the surrounding area.
