About 10 minutes walk to the centre of the bustling market town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, large traditional detached stone farmhouse with detached barn and land (about 6500 sqm; 1.4 acres) in need of complete restoration, although the roof has been replaced where it was in a bad state.
The farmhouse is built over 3 levels, each about 100sqm (including walls) and could be restored as a prestigious family home or divided into two, 2-bedroom apartments.
The large barn is built over 2 levels and has total floor area of around 200 sqm.
The medieval market town of Castelnuovo (227m/745ft; population 8,000) lies in the heart of the Garfagnana, as this stretch of the fertile valley of the Serchio, flanked by the Apuan Alps to the west and Apennines to the east, is known. The district provides a range of sporting activities and promotes folk, agricultural and cultural events.
Castelnuovo is about 13km from the walled town of Barga, 43 km from Lucca and 66 km from Pisa airport, which is less than 1 ½ hours drive away. Castelnuovo train station is on the main Pisa/Lucca to Aulla line and there is a bus station with good links to the surrounding area.
There are local ski runs just 20 minutes away while the excellent resort of Abetone and the coast (Forte dei Marmi) are about an hour's drive away.
