Reputedly founded by the Romans in 102 BC, Sillano (734m asl) is a peaceful and ancient mountain village, surrounded by woodland and mountains in the Orecchiella Park.
The property for sale is a lovely upper villa (separate entrance) on the edge of the village, with large garden, stone built barn/chicken coop and beautiful far-reaching views of the surrounding mountains and villages.
Built in the 1950s, it is accessed via remote control gates and driveway. It has its own entrance which leads to marble steps to the enormous, sunny hallway with pellet heater and arched door to external terrace. Lounge with additional pellet heater. Original tiles, lovely wooden doors and arched windows with spectacular views. 2 double bedrooms (one built in the turret). Kitchen with internal corridor to lounge. Bathroom with arched window. Excellent order throughout.
Sillano has a number of good, well-stocked shops, including grocers, butcher, general store and chemist as well as a post office, library, bank, doctor's surgery, café and hotel/restaurant. The village has its own nursery and primary school, while secondary schooling is available in Piazza al Serchio, just 7km away. There is a tennis court and “bocce” (bowls) in the village. Both Sillano and the surrounding villages organise a number of festivals throughout the year.
Piazza al Serchio (7km away) provides many shops and amenities, including an open-air swimming pool. It is on the main Pisa/Lucca to Aulla train line and is about 1.5 hours from Lucca and less than 2 hours to Pisa by car (and a bit less by train). The coast (Forte dei Marmi) and good skiing are just 66km away (in different directions, naturally!)
