You can walk to the centre of Vagli di Sotto which has bar/restaurant/grocer and public swimming pool by the lake.
On the way (about 1.5km from the house) there is another café, grocers, chemist, restaurant, public swimming pool and petrol station.
Around the village are numerous trails that lead to other fantastic viewpoints and marble quarries.
The Garfagnana countryside is quite stunning with hills, meadows, valleys, mountain streams and pools. 
allowing easy journeys through the scenic Garfagnana valley to Lucca,



The nearest large market town is Castelnuovo di Garfagnana (17km
Lucca is 64km (1 hours 10 mins)
Pisa airport 92km (1hour 40 mins).
The local ski slopes of Careggine is 17km (20 mins)
Ski resort of Abetone are both about is 60km (about 1 hr by car)
There is also a train station in the village of Poggio (10km)
Pisa and Florence which are world renowned tourist destinations.
