Beautiful fortnight in the Tuscan hills
Lovely stay, came by train, without a car which we thought might be a bit of a gamble, but worked perfectly. Marco and Claudio were great and helpful at all times. Train service to lucca and pisa was great shops in the town all we needed. Lazy days by the pool and some trips out. Nicely rested!

A small paradise in the Tuscan mountains
We were travelling with 4 children, mother-in-law, mum, dad and dog. When we arrived (in a small car park), the landlord came and showed us to the property. He drove up in his car and we followed behind with our two children. You drive over hill and dale, through a stream (shallow water) and finally up a really steep incline to the property. But the drive up is worth it! During the two weeks we looked for a car park down in the town and then always walked 2 minutes to the house via a small romantic path and the old stone bridge. The property is an absolute dream! The pool is perfect, the view is gigantic and the property is really big. We were allowed to help ourselves to the fruit trees on the property as much as we wanted. My husband took care of the communication with the landlords as he speaks a little Italian - that really made it easier. The house is an old farmhouse. As it is surrounded by nature, animals sometimes come to visit. We had dormice under the roof. The landlords were right there and set up a trap to catch the little rodents. Everyone - no matter where you go - is super helpful and friendly. The weather is wonderful! The landlords' pizzeria is also great. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is great. It was a DREAM holiday for us - one we will never forget!

We wanted to be among ourselves and still be within walking distance of shops and restaurants. This is exactly what the accommodation offers: everything can be reached in 15 minutes once you have found the right paths through the village and you are still in the middle of nature with a great view. The often-mentioned approach: we followed the directions exactly on the outward journey (note: Google would lead a different route). The last 1 hour with lots of bends is a bit tiring. We received a very friendly welcome at the pizzeria in the village and the boss drove his car to the house in front of us, which was a great help. There are good dirt roads, a river crossing without a bridge and the last "steep bit" ~45° is a paved road. It was a bit of a challenge the first time, but then no problem. The property is very nicely prepared, the pool is great, the furnishings are complete and everything is lovingly prepared. The support is friendly, accommodating and deserves 5 stars. So don't complain, just a quick WhatsUp message and help arrives immediately. The village has everything you need. Very good food and all the necessary shops.

The holiday home is great! The landlord is really nice. The access to the house is difficult. A steep dirt road with a stream crossing. But otherwise: highly recommended!!!

This house is very pleasant to live in. Impeccably clean. A very beautiful plot of land exactly in line with the photos and a splendid view from the land and the swimming pool over the valley with a very beautiful village opposite. The house has access by a stone path which is a bit difficult but doable, the passage by the river just below the house is very original! The kids loved the 2 minute walk to the river to fish. Very pleasant swimming pool. Sufficient kitchen equipment. The only more complicated point is that the house is "far" from the major sites to visit in Tuscany or from the sea because it takes at least an hour and a half on slightly winding roads to access the major local tourist sites, but we knew that before to go. The house and its garden are so pleasant that we stayed there often with just walks to the village passing by the pretty bridge and medieval village right next to the house, to have a coffee and to do some shopping, there is everything necessary. We were two families with two children and all delighted with our stay.

Peace and quiet in a secluded location

We came to Piazza al Serchio with two families (4 adults, 4 children aged 4-12 and 1 dog). The old stone house offers enough space and especially the top floor with its cozy sloping turned out to be a practical retreat for the older children. The original prayer house is rented by the brothers Marco and Claudio, who only speak Italian, which made communication a bit more complicated at one point or another, but who were incredibly nice and helpful. No matter what your concern was, it was taken care of immediately and on top of that you were generously supplied with vegetables from your own garden. The property is spacious and fenced so that we could let our dog run around freely the entire time. We used the salt water pool and the table tennis table with enthusiasm every day. In the pool area we would have preferred shady areas, as outside the pool you could hardly stand it in the sun and the existing awning was by far not enough. In Piazza al Serchio there is a supermarket, butcher, confectioner, baker and the landlord's pizzeria (highly recommended), but not much more. The house with the well-tended garden was enough for us and we were able to relax there without the hustle and bustle. This atmosphere together with the great and personable hosts made it possible for us to have a wonderful stay.

Great house, great plot, nice location. If you are looking for peace, ambience and Tuscan mountain scenery, you are in the right place. Surrounded by almost 2000 m high peaks, the house is secluded and very quiet. Nevertheless, you can walk in 15 minutes to the supermarket, bakery or pizzeria. The local hosts Marco and Claudio welcome a very friendly and take care of everything: a carefree holiday ideal for 2 families with children. Thank you

Scenic, rustic retreat with a pool
We spend 10 days in Piazza al Serchio. The location combines the best from different worlds. You are close to nature in a beautiful valley. The house belongs to the outskirts of a tiny medieval township, is well kept and equipped, beautifully furnished and stays cool- even on the hottest days. The pool was a blast, if you have small children you will find shady retreats that still are in viewing range of the water. During the night the whole location transforms into a fantasy dreams. Hundred of light-bugs dance through the surrounding foliage while moon lights the valley. We would travel there again!

We were Pentecost 2019 with 7 people (4 adults, 3 children) in this beautiful holiday home. The house is really nice and well equipped. We had more than enough space and felt very comfortable. The property is very spacious, with two beautiful seats and a beautiful fenced pool overlooking the surrounding countryside. Our hosts were very accommodating and on the first day even brought us free pizzas for all of us. The driveway is actually a bit adventurous, but doable. We walked mostly on foot, which is 5 minutes over a beautiful medieval bridge. The path is a bit steep, but both the older (60+) and youngest (4) had no difficulty with it. For loading and unloading you can drive directly to the house and leave the car there as well. The house is a bit out of the way on the edge of the village. You really are completely alone and can enjoy the peace. The location in the mountains is optimal and not too high, so it was really hot during the day, but pleasant at night. The only drawback is that the location takes a long time to get to the sea or to the actually nearby cities. Travel time to Pisa or La Spezia is about 1.5 hours. In the vicinity there is also something to experience, with children necessarily go into the climbing forest. Overall, highly recommended.

5 stars Beautiful, if you like nature!
Beautifully located, very well furnished and very clean. Access and way but very difficult, you have to be good on foot. For the elderly maybe a little difficult, but who likes peace and Italian country life here has the perfect, quite luxurious home with a total of nice hosts!
One of the best properties we have have stayed in for many years. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
A beautiful house in a beautiful location, the owners of the property, Marco and Claudio, were the perfect hosts, very friendly and helpful. We genuinely did not want to leave for home and would loved to have stayed a few more days. The house, pool and gardens were amazing, the local area had so much to offer and the views were fantastic. The Pizzeria that Marco and Claudio owned was very nice and there pizzas i would say were the best in the area based on the amount of locals coming in for takeaways. Definitely worth another stay in the very near future.

5 stars! Beautiful villa in a stunning location up in the mountains. The pool area looks out across the valley and has lots of room around it for the kids. The villa has everything you would need for a highly enjoyable holiday.
This was our first time in Northern Tuscany and were taken back by the dramatic landscapes.
The kids loved the river at the bottom of the property, daily fishing trips and damp building at sun down time.
Marco could not have been more hospitable, even making sure we had pizzas on arrival! |

Cottage San Michele - bella, bella |

Wow - what a fantastic place to holiday! We loved our stay in Cottage San Michele, from the warm reception from Marco and Claudio ( and pizzas!), the beautiful villa, garden and pool, learning to play table tennis again, the views to the surrounding mountains and villages, to the morning walk down the pack horse trail and over the medieval bridge to collect the bread. Its the second time we have stayed in and around Piazza al Serchio and we can't wait to make a return visit. Yes the WiFi can be a bit patchy but when theres all this on offer - who cares! |

Tuscan heaven |
★ ★ ★ ★ ★ |
We've stayed in Tuscany 3 or 4 times before at the same place. We had been disappointed that we couldn't stay there this year but what a lucky break. Instead we opted to stay at Cottage San Michele. We'll never look back! Even before arrival, we were well looked after with helpful instructions. We were directed to the owners' pizzeria in the village and have never been more grateful at 10pm, to find they were still serving and to sit down to pizza and lovely local wine. What a lovely start to the week. Marco and Claudio were so welcoming. We were grateful too to be guided to the cottage that night... that might have been daunting in the dark. We loved the house and the grounds were immaculate. We felt we were in the middle of nowhere so it was a lovely surprise in the daylight to discover we could walk through the old part of the village to the bakers and shops (and in fact had a river swim on the way!) We had the loveliest week - visitors to the cottage must go the Friday market at Castelnuovo and have a tasting lunch in Osteria Vecchio Mulino (say hello to owner Andrea and helpful waitress Barbara Burrelli). They are leading the way in promoting good produce PAT style (prodotti agroalimentari tradizionali). Yum. You can't fail to have a great time here. PS wee point. I thought the pool might be small from the pic but it was perfect and loved that it was low chlorine. |

“Tuscan delight”

Reviewed September 19, 2015 NEW
We have a wonderful week at Cottage San Michel. Perfect house, gorgeous grounds, stunning surroundings, the ideal distance from the village to stretch our legs and get the daily bread and shop (with a dip in the river on the way!). Our arrival was aided by the helpful info pack, the fact that the owners have a pizzeria and we were able to get food after 10pm and be guided to the house to avoid end-of-the-road lost-and-tired syndrome. We'd been to Tuscany 3 or 4 times before. I'd def stay here again. PS make sure you visit Castelnuovo's Friday Market and book for a lunchtime tasting at Osteria Vecchio Mulino - leading the way in promoting good produce PAT style (prodotti agroalimentari tradizionali). Yum.
