The property sits on the historical main mountain pass between the coast and Garfagnana, near the beautiful and historic village and lake I which it is reflected, both called Isola Santa. This route was for many years used by travellers and as far back as 1260 there was an inn close to the site of the restaurant.

“Da Giaccò” comprised a café/bar, open air dining in summer and two internal dining rooms where local produce was prepared on traditional wood burning grills.

The nearest large town, Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, is about 12km away. The district provides a range of sporting activities and promotes folk, agricultural and cultural events.

Isola Santa is about 25km from the walled town of Barga, 58 km from Lucca and 72 km from Pisa airport, which is about 1 ¼ hours drive away. Castelnuovo train station is on the main Pisa/Lucca to Aulla line and there is a bus station with good links to the surrounding area.

There are local ski slopes in Careggine just 15 minutes away while the coast (Forte dei Marmi) is 30km about 35 minutes over the Apuan Alps. The well equipped ski resort of Abetone is 1 hour 10 minutes away by car.
