The house has a total floor area of about 120 sqm over 3 floors. The ground floor comprises dining kitchen with open fire and loung/bedroom 4 with open fire. From the dining kitchen, steps lead up upstairs to the first floor with two bedrooms and shower room. On the second floor there are 2 inter-connecting bedrooms.

The house retains many original features such as wooden beams and floorboards. The electrics have recently been updated and there is central heating to radiators in most rooms.

Outisde there is a courtyard and a barn. There is a right of passage through the courtyard but this is rarely used.

Located in the heart of the Apuan Alps, within the National Park, Careggine is surrounded by forests, mountains, meadows, rivers and lakes but can be reached in less than an hour from the main motorway exits or railway stations. The house is about 1 hr 30 minutes from Lucca and 1 hr 50 minutes from Pisa.

Careggine itself is over 1000 years old, with traditional stone built houses and village lanes.

A short drive away are the small ski lifts of Formica and Via Nova with restaurants, three ski lifts and artificial snow making facilities. The much larger resort of Abetone is about 1.5 hour away. The coast is about 60km (1.5 hours) away over the marble mountains of Carrara, making this an ideal location for holidays all year round.

The nearest large market town, Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, is 16km away It has supermarkets, banks, garages and all manner of other shops, services and sporting facilities as well as train station on the main Pisa/Lucca to Aulla line.
